Your teen was likely thrilled to score that part-time job delivering pizzas:

Free pizza?

Getting to drive around town on the clock?

Tips?

However, your teen might want to reserve some of those tips for car insurance. In fact, they may need to up their coverage, or, in some cases, switch from a personal to commercial policy.

Simply put, personal policies are written with the average private citizen's habits and needs in mind, whereas commercial policies are designed to address the unique needs and situations that arise in commercial use.

Car insurance companies consider commercial auto insurance and personal car insurance to be two very different types of policies due to the differences in liability and risk. And if you file a claim on your personal car insurance for a vehicle you use for work, your car insurance company may deny your claim simply because some business uses violate the terms of your personal car insurance policy.

So before you start delivering pizzas (or using your vehicle primarily for reasons other than commuting), be sure to review your car insurance policy and talk to your agent.

Lastly, make sure your teen knows that safety is the top priority.

Getting that pizza delivered in 30 minutes or less should not come at the expense of his safety.
